The big day may have come and gone, but were getting ready for our next Women's Work Exhibition.
“Women’s Work” is a groundbreaking exhibition that showcases the multifaceted contributions of women in shaping the American West. Through the hands of female artists and makers, this exhibition brings together selected artists with women on working ranches, allowing them to gather reference materials and learn from the work of women in these spaces. Furthermore, “Women’s Work” aims to provide a platform for Indigenous Women to tell their own stories. Any representation of Indigenous art or culture comes from the intimate connection of Indigenous women and their experience within their own tribe.
Our hope is to expand the Western art catalog to include a more realistic portrayal of women and their varied roles in the American West and to bring awareness to their full contributions and work. “Women’s Work” seeks to craft an artistic narrative that not only captures the essence of women’s lives in the West but also stands as a testament to their real-life work and contributions.
The exhibition runs from August - September 2024 at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, Colorado. The opening weekend will include a dinner reception, opportunities to visit with artists, and artist and partner talks and demonstrations.
